Method
Prepare the Cake
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round baking pan.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before transferring to a wire rack.
Prepare the Frosting
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.
- Add the milk and vanilla extract, beating until the frosting is light and fluffy. Adjust consistency with more milk if needed.
- If using, mix in food coloring to achieve desired color.
Assemble the Cake
- Once the cake is completely cooled, place it on a serving plate.
- Spread a layer of frosting on top of the cake.
- Decorate with additional sprinkles as desired.
