Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup warm water

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Loaf pan
  • Oven

Method

  1. Prepare the yeast by combining warm water, active dry yeast, and a teaspoon of honey in a small bowl; let sit for five minutes until foamy.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, melted butter, and remaining honey until well combined.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center.
  4. Pour the yeast mixture followed by the buttermilk mixture into the well. Stir until combined.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about eight minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size (about one hour).
  7. Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan and let rise again for thirty minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
