Delicious meatball subs made with homemade meatballs, marinara sauce, and melted cheese, served in a toasted sub roll.

Ingredients
  

Meatballs
  • 1 pound Ground beef 80/20 blend for best flavor
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs Italian style preferred
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese Grated
  • 1 large Egg Beaten
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
Sauce and Assembly
  • 2 cups Marinara sauce Store-bought or homemade
  • 4 sub rolls Submarine rolls Toasted
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese Shredded
  • 1/4 cup Fresh basil Chopped, for garnish

Method
 

Prepare the Meatballs
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until cooked through.
Prepare the Sauce and Assemble
  1. While the meatballs are baking, heat marinara sauce in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Once the meatballs are done, add them to the skillet with the marinara sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. To assemble, place meatballs and sauce into toasted sub rolls, top with mozzarella cheese, and return to the oven for 5 minutes until cheese is melted.
  4. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes
